My starting point: Inspiration from the bubble concept; may be used as a seating feature
The bubble concept led to this cave like shelter having holes dug in the walls to be used as seating facilities.
Next idea was the fish tail: its shape was simplified and taken further to be used as a canopy for shelter from rain.
This was another option which should work better than the first option. It has double walls on the back side which could play an important element in the lighting effects, seating capacity in the front and a canopy for when it rains. Personally the canopy might result to be a flimsy and not so adequate in windy conditions and very bad weather. The coming up designs include a side wall for better sheltering in bad weather.
At this stage I retreated from the tail shaped canopy and looked into different contours still keeping in mind the theme of my project but tackling it differently...
These are my initial sketches that will lead me to my final development for the Bus Shelter in Valletta. I started off with some crude ideas but these were a starting reference point. My last two sketches are looking more into what is expected to be my final design. The shape altogether evolved into something looking to the future and is expected to have morphogenetic aspects especially in its construction methods.
